Set up
Set up your Device
Sign in once, then follow the section for what you hold: a desk board that sits plugged in, or a pendant you wear. Nothing here needs a toolchain or a script.
First, sign in with your invite
Open the Dashboard, paste the invite you were sent into Invite code · first sign-in only, and continue with Google or GitHub. The invite works once and binds that account to your own isolated data. Every later sign-in is the same button with the code box left empty, on the web and in the app alike.
Desk board
You need a Waveshare ESP32-S3-RLCD-4.2, a USB-C data cable (a charge-only cable shows no port at all), and a computer running a Chromium browser — Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc — or Firefox 151 or newer. Safari cannot flash, and neither can a phone.
1 · Flash it, and give it your Wi-Fi
Plug the board into this computer, click Install, and pick its port from the browser's list. Tick Erase device: only an erased board offers the Wi-Fi step, and only an erased board is free of whatever it shipped with. The same dialog then asks for your network: pick it, type the password, and wait for success. The password travels down the USB cable into the board and nowhere else.
If a blank or half-written board reboots in a loop and never offers a port, hold the BOOT button down while you click Install, and let go once the flash has started.
2 · Read the six digits off its display
On your Wi-Fi the board dials the server and its display shows CLAIM
followed by six digits. A code lives for ten minutes; if it expires, unplug the board
and plug it back in for a fresh one.
3 · Claim it
In Sources, under Claim a device, type the six digits and Claim. That is what makes the board yours: the proof is that you can read its screen, never which network it is on. Until then it is on your Wi-Fi but belongs to no one.
Later: a board you already claimed
The board updates itself. A cable is needed again only when its card in Sources says USB required, or when you move it to another network. Plug it in, click the same Install button, and leave Erase device unticked: only the firmware is rewritten, and the board keeps its Wi-Fi and its Claim. For a new network choose Change Wi-Fi in that dialog instead.
Never tick Erase on a board you have claimed. Erasing destroys the Claim it proves itself with while the server still counts it as yours, so it dials for ever and is never let in. If it happens, wait until its card says Offline, choose Release… from that card's menu, and Claim it again from the six digits on its display.
Pendant
A pendant has no network of its own: the RLCDVoice iPhone app carries what it hears. A XIAO nRF52840 Sense is flashed by you, below. Other pendants arrive flashed: skip to step 3.
1 · Download the firmware
2 · Copy it onto the pendant
Plug the pendant into a computer with a USB-C data cable and press its reset button twice, quickly. A drive named XIAO-SENSE appears. Drag the file you downloaded onto that drive. The drive disappears by itself a few seconds later: the pendant has taken the firmware and restarted. If the drive stays, copy the file again.
3 · Pair it in the app
Install the RLCDVoice app from TestFlight and sign in the same way. In Sources, choose Pair a pendant and pick yours from the list. Pairing is what makes the pendant yours, and the app keeps it current: when a newer firmware is on offer, its card in the app offers the Update.
